Songs and Fingerplays at the Mothergoose Storytime

Here are some of the songs and fingerplays you will see at the Mothergoose Storytime:

The More We Get Together

The more we get together, together, together
The more we get together the happier we’ll be
‘Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together the happier we’ll be

The more we share together, together, together
The more we share together the happier we’ll be
‘Cause sharing is caring
And caring is sharing
The more we get together the happier we’ll be

Charlie Over the Water

Charlie over the water (point at child)

Charlie over the sea (point at child again)

Charlie catch a blackbird (clap twice for “black-bird”)

But can’t catch me. (shake head)

Open Shut Them

(hold out hands making fists)
Open (open hands) shut them (shut hands)
Open (open hands) shut them (shut hands)
Give a little clap, clap, clap (clap 3 times)

Open (open hands) shut them (shut hands)
Open (open hands) shut them (shut hands)
Lay them in your lap lap lap (pat lap 3 times)

Creep them creep them slowly creep them
Right up to your chin (walk fingers up chest to chin)
Open up your little mouth (open mouth wide)
But do not let them in! (thrust hands behind back)

The Eency Weency Spider

The eency weency spider
Went up the water spout (climb fingers up above head)
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out (open fingers and push down and out)
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain (touch fingers over head)
And the eency weency spider
Went up the spout again (climb fingers above head)

Boing Boing Squeak

(bounce child on lap in time to rhyme)
Boing boing squeak, boing boing squeak
A bouncing mouse is in my house
He’s been there for a week
He bounced from out of nowhere
And quickly settled in
I’m thankful that he came alone
I heard he has a twin
He bounces through the kitchen
He bounces through the den
He bounces through the living room
Look, there he goes again! (point)
Boing boing squeak, boing boing squeak
(Repeat)

10 Little Fingers

(hold up fingers in turn, wiggle them)
I have 1, I have 2, I have 3 little fingers
I have 4, I have 5, I have 6 little fingers
I have 7, I have 8, I have 9 little fingers
10 little fingers on my hands!

The Grand Old Duke of York

(start from a squatting position)
Oh, the grand old duke of York,
He had 10,000 men
He marched them up to the top of the hill (stand)
And he marched them down again (squat)
And when they were up they were up (stand)
And when they were down they were down (squat)
And when they were only half way up (stand bent over)
They were neither up (stand) nor down (squat)
(repeat 2 more times, faster each time)

Five Brown Teddies

Five brown teddies, sittin’ on a wall
Five brown teddies, sittin’ on a wall
And if one brown teddy should accidently fall
There’d be four brown teddies, sittin’ on the wall
(repeat until the last teddy, then..)
There’d be no more teddies sittin’ on the wall

The wheels on the bus go round and round
Round and round, round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round, all day long

The wipers on the bus go swish swish swish
Swish swish swish, swish swish swish
The wipers on the bus go swish swish swish, all day long
